2010 National Conference

A Note of Welcome to CNHE Conference Participants

Dear Conference Participants,

View 2010 National Conference Program As President and President Elect of the Canadian Nurses for Health and the Environment, we are delighted to welcome all participants to this, our very first conference, in partnership with the Aboriginal Nurses Association of Canada, the Canadian Men in Nursing Group, and the Diabetes Nursing Interest Group of the RNAO. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to collaborate with these groups who share a passion and vision for advancing the practice of nursing into the next decade of the 21st century.

We in Canada are privileged to live in a generous country renowned for its fresh air, stunning landscapes, clean clear waterways, and rich agriculture. We are however living in turbulent times, with a rapidly changing environment that is threatening the health of all people, particularly those living in poverty or the developing world. The abuses that human activity has caused to our water, our soil, food, and air is altering both the beauty and the functioning of our environment. Our understanding of environmental issues and effects on human health is growing. We as nurses cannot be complacent in the face of this growing concern. We must assume a leadership role by taking opportunities through our practice in advocating for policies and practices that protect human health and the environment over the long term. Collaboration is fundamental in planning for our future, and we are therefore doubly appreciative of the opportunity this conference provides us in starting a dialogue together. We are looking forward to forging new links in our knowledge, in our vision, and in our hopes for the future.

With sincere regards, and warm wishes for a wonderful conference,

Hilda Swirsky & Fiona Hanley, CNHE

Conference Overview

We recently held our first national conference, in partnership with the Aboriginal Nurses Association of Canada, the Canadian Men in Nursing Group, and the Diabetes Nursing Interest Group of the RNAO.

This year was special in many ways, as A.N.A.C. proudly celebrated its 35th anniversary and 2010 was also the International Year of the Nurse. The CNHE Executive could think of no better way to showcase the dedication and contributions of Canadian nurses than collaborating with our diverse partners to make this conference a success! The theme for the 2010 joint national conference was:

THEME: Linking Our Knowledge through Diverse
              Interests
